City Announces Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) Sidewalk Project on Parkwest and McGregor Streets
Merced, Calif. – The City of Merced is pleased to announce the commencement of the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) Sidewalk Project, aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility in local neighborhoods. Funded by Measure V and a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant, this project will address existing sidewalk gaps along Parkwest Street, McGregor Street, Windsor Avenue, Woodward Avenue, and Home Avenue, providing a safer and more connected walking environment for residents and students.
The project includes clearing and grubbing, removing and installing sidewalks, driveways, curb ramps, and restoring fencing and landscaping.
It spans multiple locations, specifically:
- Parkwest Street between Woodward Avenue and Windsor Avenue;
- McGregor Street between Home Avenue and Stuart Drive;
- Windsor Avenue between Parkwest Street and South R Street;
- Woodward Avenue between Parkwest Street and South R Street;
- Home Avenue between Parkwest Street and McGregor Street.
With existing sidewalk gaps currently posing safety concerns, the completion of this project will significantly improve walkability and encourage pedestrian activity. The installation of new sidewalks will enhance safety for neighborhood residents and students, promote walking trips, and provide safer access to the local neighborhood park.
The City is committed to improving pedestrian infrastructure and ensuring safe, accessible routes for all community members. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about project progress and any temporary construction-related impacts.
Background: Measure V is a local transportation sales tax measure approved by Merced County voters to fund various transportation improvements. These projects, funded by Measure V with CMAQ grants, typically focus on reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality.
In addition to these sidewalk projects, the City of Merced is also working on a notable traffic signal synchronization and controller upgrade project along Olive Avenue and other key corridors like R Street, M Street, G Street, and Yosemite Avenue. This project aims to improve road operations and safety, with a completion year set for 2026.
Public Transparency: The City of Merced is committed to transparency and public engagement in its infrastructure projects. This press release serves as one of the multiple mediums through which we are promoting these projects, fulfilling the requirements of our funding sources, and keeping the community informed.
