Tuesday, January 27, 2026, General Project Update
The contractor has installed temporary striping on Yosemite Ave from Mansionette Drive to Parsons Ave. This striping helps address the ongoing issue of cones being moved during construction and allows traffic to move more efficiently while drivers adjust to the added lanes.
Once the cold weather passes, the contractor will install the top layer of asphalt on Yosemite Ave and apply permanent lane and bicycle striping.
Please use caution while driving along Yosemite Ave and be aware of the approximately 2 inch lip next to the curb and gutter.
Remaining work to be completed includes:
• Paving the top lift on Yosemite Ave from Mansionette Drive to Parsons Ave
• Adjusting traffic signals to the new vehicle detection cameras
• Relocating the traffic signal cabinet at G St and Yosemite Ave
• Raising all utility covers to grade
• Resetting all traffic signals to proper timing
• Repaving the intersections at G St and Yosemite Ave and at Yosemite Ave and Parsons Ave
Tuesday, January 6, 2026, General Project Update
The project is moving forward but has experienced some delays due to weather conditions. The contractor has placed the first layer of asphalt on Yosemite Avenue from Mansionette Drive to Parsons Avenue. The final layer cannot be placed yet because the asphalt must be dry and temperatures must be above 50 degrees.
This delay has also postponed road striping and requires traffic signals to remain on flash at this time. Remaining work includes completing paving and striping on Yosemite Avenue, installing street signs, repaving the intersection at G Street and Yosemite Avenue, and repaving the intersection at Parsons Avenue and Yosemite Avenue.
The contractor is also completing relocation of the traffic signal cabinet and installing fiber optic lines on G Street to improve traffic signal connectivity and support more efficient traffic flow on G Street and Yosemite Avenue.
Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Project Update: G Street to Parsons Ave
Starting December 3rd traffic will be moved to outside lanes for work in the center median. Traffic on Cordova Ave, Quail Ave, Joerg Ave, and White Dove Ave will be restricted to right-turns only onto Yosemite Avenue.
Paving on Yosemite Avenue from Mansionette Drive to Parsons Ave will begin on December 10th (weather depending). Traffic will be shifted to the North side of the road for pavement, then shifted to the south side of the road for pavement.
Work continues to upgrade the traffic signal on Yosemite and G Street.
Friday, October 10, 2025, Project Update: Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction
The Yosemite Avenue Improvement Project continues to make strong progress toward transforming the corridor between G Street and Parsons Avenue into a safer, more efficient, and more welcoming route for the community.
This major infrastructure project is designed to strengthen essential systems, enhance traffic safety, and support Merced’s long-term growth. Construction has remained steady, and while temporary challenges such as noise, traffic delays, and limited access are expected, crews are working efficiently to minimize disruptions and keep residents and businesses informed.
When complete, the improved corridor will provide smoother travel, improved safety, and a more attractive environment for everyone who drives, walks, or bikes through the area.
Key improvements include:
Replacement of more than 5,000 feet of 18-inch sewer main with a new 30-inch main to ensure long-term reliability.
Expansion of Yosemite Avenue from two lanes to four lanes to reduce congestion and improve access.
Installation of new traffic signal systems and cameras to enhance vehicle flow and detect bicycles and emergency vehicles.
Construction of medians along Yosemite Avenue and Sandpiper Avenue to reduce collisions from unprotected left turns.
Upgrades to sidewalks, ADA access ramps, curbs, and gutters to create a safer, more accessible walking environment.
Thank you for your patience and continued support as these important upgrades move forward to improve mobility and safety for years to come.
Friday, August 29, 2025, Project Update: Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction
Yes… Yosemite Avenue is still on schedule! The contractor has finished installing the sewer main and is currently replacing sidewalks, curb & gutter, and traffic signal equipment.
We are scheduled to start the Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) on September 3rd for the north side of Yosemite Avenue. During this work, we will temporarily close White Dove Ave, Quail Ave, and Paulson Ave.
